Mailtrust at Fork & Cork this Weekend
Mailtrust, a division of Rackspace, is sponsoring the first annual Fork and Cork in Blacksburg, VA (where our headquarters are located), this Saturday from 11am to 6pm. This is a great way for our employees to get into the community to talk to other professionals about what we do. It’s going to be a day filled with lots of great entertainment, food and of course great local wine. You can learn more about the event online at the official website.
We will have a tent set up where we will be hanging out during the event. If you are around the area we invite you to come out and join us.

Mailtrust in the Community
At Mailtrust, we like to give back to the community. And we’ve been finding a variety of ways to get involved and help others . . .
For example, some Mailtrust’ers have started a Relay for Life team, which benefits the American Cancer Society. We’ve helped the team raise money through bake sales, Nacho Fridays, and even a “Pie Your Manager in the Face” day.

We’ve also turned our thirst for sodas into a way to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. When you’re done with your drink, just drop the soda tab into the collection box. And, of course, drop the can in the recycling bin. We’re doing our part to be green, as well!

We donate food to the local food bank. And several members of our team are involved with Junior Achievement and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Whether you run a business or work at one, I encourage you to get involved in your local community. It’s a great way to help those less fortunate, and it can be a ton of fun too!
Open Source Data Synchronization between Servers
Google, Apple and Microsoft take pride in offering ways to synchronize your data to the mobile device of your choice; however, the consumer, smitten by the power of incredible services and devices dwells at the center of a smorgasbord of phones, PDAs, computers, email accounts, and social networking services. At this point consumers spend a better part of their web time trying to unify their personal and shared data across platforms and devices rather than letting it happen automatically.
Enter Mailtrust. Up until this point we have offered a way to sync your contacts, calendars, tasks and notes for our Noteworthy product to your BlackBerry, Outlook, Windows Mobile or iPhone seamlessly. Over the past few months, however, we have developed a piece of software called Source-To-Source Sync, built on top of the open source innovator Funambol, that allows one to sync data directly from one source to another across different platforms just as easily as one can sync data to their devices. We’re leveraging Source-to-Source Sync with our new Migrations project, currently in development, to allow users to migrate their data from external Exchange accounts, but the possibilities are endless.
For me this could mean keeping my Google contacts and calendars constantly synchronized with my Noteworthy contacts and calendars. Adding a contact on Noteworthy replicates the contact on Google within minutes and vice versa. Additionally, my Blackberry would be kept up-to-date through Sync for Blackberry.
Putting this all together we come to the real life scenario. I happen upon a long lost friend in a coffee shop where I take down his contact information on my Blackberry only to find that I have misplaced my phone at lunchtime. Since I promised to call him I open my laptop and browse to my Gmail account to get his info only to find that the servers are down. Finally — and thankfully — I browse to my Noteworthy account, and by the virtue of Source-To-Source Sync, I find the contact and make the call!
And, its open source! We just launched the Source-to-Source Sync home page on Funambol Forge. Go there to download the code, submit feature requests and track development of new features. This is perfect for developers interested in getting a platform supported or building a new feature for the project. We welcome all contributions big or small.

Microsoft Is Making Some News with Exchange 2010
We are pleased to see that Microsoft has released a beta version of Exchange 2010 (aka Exchange 14) that provides many new features including an updated Outlook Web Access interface, threaded conversations, and a mute button. Learn more about their new solution here.
Of particular note, Microsoft is releasing their hosted version of the new platform before they sell standalone server software. Microsoft’s first focus on hosted Exchange is a ringing endorsement of our cloud application model. We already host 100,000 Exchange mailboxes and there are lots of reasons why customers are choosing our Hosted Exchange solution.
Why would anyone want to go through the challenges of large capital expenditures, sourcing hardware, securing software licenses, training administrators, migrating .pst files, and installing the inevitable patches that come with every new release of Exchange? Expect more while paying less for a better solution complete with Fanatical Support! And on top of that we can offer customers the ability to save 40% off a standard hosted Exchange offering–just take a look at our Hybrid offering.
Get Your Inbox Prioritized Using Flags
Is your inbox a disorganized mess? Mine used to be too. I would get an urgent email intending on following it up ASAP just to find days later it’s slipped under the email fold and out of memory. Or, even better, I’d get the very important email and swear I’d never received it because it didn’t stand out amidst the hundreds of messages sitting in my inbox.
This is why I’ve recently started using flags to help me out. But flags don’t really help unless you’re able to sort your inbox by those flags. When I sort by flags, even though I have over 600 messages sitting in my inbox, I can scan them quickly and at-a-glance pick out which ones I’ve determined are important, need follow up or immediate action by the colored flag.
The sort by flag is the icon between the envelope icon and the attachment paperclip icon to the left of each email message in your Noteworthy Webmail app. To add a flag, just click on the icon beside the selected message. By right-clicking on the flag, I can choose from red, green, purple, blue, or yellow flags to color code my inbox into a rainbow of organization.
For those emails that get pushed out of the inbox fold, I can hit the white flag in the blue column headings bar above the inbox and quickly pull all my flagged messages, grouped by color, to the top of the list. For me, the red flags indicate high priority, yellow means I need to handle it before the end of the week, green flags are information that needs follow up, and blue for items I’ve forwarded or replied to and need a response. I’m sure to other people the colors each mean something different than what they mean to me, but that’s why they’re so useful. With multiple color combination’s, I can create a task and reminder list right in my inbox and never forget about an important email again.
Get More Out of Noteworthy Webmail Mobile
Noteworthy Webmail Mobile is a simple and easy to use way to access email, calendar, and contacts on your mobile device from Noteworthy. The best part is the app works on any mobile device that supports a connection to the internet. It was actually designed to work on flip phones!
In order to make your data more accessible, we added the ability to search your contacts and company directory directly from the mobile interface. Just type in the name of the person you’re searching for and on the results page choose the Contacts or Company Directory link. If you have a phone number associated with the entry, you’ll just click on it and your phone starts dialing. Now, you can reach your contacts anywhere and everywhere.
